Story

Thank you so much for visiting our just giving page in memory of our Husband/Dad/Grampy, Dick Baimbridge, aiming to raise as much as we can for The Injured Jockeys fund who consistently provide care and rehabilitation for those who share his passion for the sport.

Over the past few days so many brilliant stories and fond memories have been shared with us, whether in the field, from horse sales over the years, from the Upper Hill gallops, or out and about on P2P courses across the country. It’s abundantly clear that Dick’s influence on racehorse training and horsemanship has been more far-reaching than we had imagined, so thank you for all of your kind words!

The main themes from these anecdotes tend to cover his graciousness independent of his horses’ position at the finish, and his capability to get the best out of otherwise struggling horses. He’s passed on his message that working hard gets you true respect (independent of the sphere) to all of us over the years. Inevitably, working hard in a sport such as racing (at whatever level) leads to falls and injuries to the very best of jockeys, hence the importance of The Injured Jockey Fund’s vital work. The charity is an integral part to the health and well-being of jockeys at their lowest to bounce back into form and career longevity, the famous fight to “get back in the saddle and ride”.

Had it not been for the COVID-19 restrictions at this time, we would have loved to see you all at a funeral service, but at this point in time that is not possible. The funeral will be taking place with close family (trying to keep the number of Baimbridges to less than 30 !!) but we are all so touched by everyone’s support for the family, and would love for you to give what you can in order to ensure that many many more people can have the opportunity for such a long and successful career in the sport.
