A Walk To Remember · 1 June 2021 to 30 June 2021 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

It’s been 2 years and 3 months since my Stroke.

In hospital I had lots of therapy.  Speech,  occupational and physical therapy from the Nhs.

When I was discharged from hospital, the day after the Stroke association team called us to make an appointment to see me.  Having a stroke affects everyone in the family and they supported me and they support Iain and Harvey emotionally as well.

Before lockdown I was going to a group from the stroke association to meet other stroke survivors,  It helps to see that I’m not on my own and I’ve met some nice friends on the way.

The stroke association are having an event called ‘Walk your own Marathon’

Myself and my lovely friend Tina are going to take part in a series of walks, Tina has been here with me every week, walking, talking and helping heaps.  I wouldn’t be without her!

We will do a marathon in two weeks starting tomorrow.  But hopefully we will finish early. 🤞🏼

I walk every day in between 3K - 10k, It does depend how tired I am, believe me Neuro Fatigue is real!

If you fancy sponsoring us, We will be so grateful.  Anything helps.

It’s a little bit about the stroke association...

Why your fundraising is so important

Every pound you raise in memory of your loved one will help us to reach more people affected by stroke by offering specialist support and vital research.

We are the UK’s leading charity dedicated to helping people affected by stroke.

Our key areas of work include:

  • Support services – Our support services include but are not limited to emotional support, communication support, and exercise-based rehabilitation.
  • Information – Our information is based on accurate and up-to-date evidence. We ask stroke survivors and their families, as well as medical experts, to help us when putting our information together.
  • Research – Our research helps to improve treatments, care and rehabilitation, saving thousands of lives and helping stroke survivors make the best recovery they can.
  • Campaigning – We are the force for change. By listening to and working with people affected by stroke, we drive improvements in stroke care.
  • When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community. With more donations and support from you, we can rebuild even more lives.
