Thanks for taking the time to visit our page!
A note to all, the skydive had to be postponed from 18/0410 to the end of June when the weather will be more favourable and the likelihood of volcanic ash hampering our jump will be gone! Many thanks to all that have donated so far!
What are we doing?
Well, at the college we have a long tradition of doing charity events throughout the terms, which raise a bit of money but don't really get the fundraisers i.e us, excited about what we are doing...and this just won't do!
So things are going to change. About twenty college staff and pupils are planning on doing a skydive for Help for Heroes. That's right, we will be travelling down to Salisbury some time in April, into a small aircraft to around 12,000ft and leaping out of the door. Yes, some may call us crazy, and the truth is we probably are, but as we sit here and type this it seems like a great idea!
The Brave Skydivers:
Toby Gebbie, Tom Evans, William Sibree, Lyddy Williams, Brett Saunders, Sharon Saunders, Tom Johnson, Charlie Bottomley, Ellie Whitehead, Denis Corcoran, Matt Banes, Mark Turnbull, Tim Marriott, Richard Bunce, Luke Rees, Joe Hughes, Kathleen Briedenhann, Tom Fisher and Linda Lamb.
Why a Skydive?
Firstly because it is one of those things that people when they are asked three or four months in advance if they want to to it, they seem very excited at the thought of it. It is only when the time slowly draws near and the thought of that plane door opening and slinging your feet out over open air when they think why...just why did I sign up for this?
On the other hand, it's different. How many schools have you heard of that do something like this? Answer: not many, and probably for good reason. Luckily enough we are all slightly mad!
Why Help for Heroes?
There are a number of reasons for this. Firstly, it is a very important charity especially at a time when it seems that whenever you open the newspaper there is a story about a new death or a new casualty - things that are out of our control, but they are things that we can help and support and H4H is a way of doing this.
Secondly the school has a very strong and prominent CCF department, which has produced many cadets that want to carry on to the army after they leave the school. It is important to support them in any way we can and we think that Help for Heroes is a good start.
So that's enough babble from us, we need you to help us to reach our £15,000 target and if possible to break that target and get even more. All of the money that you donate will go straight to the charity, so there is no need for you to worry about the staff buying a coffee or the students buying a kitkat with your hard earned cash. Your online donation will go into a big 'pot' so if you want the person you are sponsoring to know you gave money please say who you are donating towards.
So please dig deep and help us make a difference; we would really appreciate it and so would the brave soldiers that we are doing this all for.
P.S if you do decide to donate, you can add Gift-Aid to your donation and the charity will get even more!
Thank you,
Eastbourne College Skydivers
