Story

Hi, thanks for taking the time to visit my page and hopefully handing over some cash!

It's been 5 years since I lost my Dad, in some ways it feels like 5 minutes ago and in others it feels like a lifetime.

People might tell you it gets easier or the pain goes away, that's actually not true, but what you do is find a way to live with it and carry on. It's always there but you can only honour them the best you can and live your best life. Luckily, I'm blessed with an amazing wife, my two boys, my Mum and all my family and friends who I know are always there for me.

If you didn't know my Dad, he was a truly great man, the best Dad, Husband, Grandfather you could ever hope for, always popular with friends with a great sense of humour.

I ran the London Marathon in 2014 in memory of my Dad and to raise money for Macmillan. This changed my life and was a great journey with both highs and lows.

The training helped me deal with the grief and demons in my head. It's often said getting out and running can help with your mental health and this definitely helped me, giving me time to think, gather my thoughts and a goal to focus on; it still does to this day. It also gives me a chance to listen to
some music!!!

After finishing the marathon in 2014 I wrote - This has been a crazy chunk of my life doing all my training, absolutely loved it, gave my life focus since my Dad died to keep me going with wonderful thoughts of him on my training runs and marathon. Hopefully I’ll keep on running and do him proud throughout the rest of my life.

So, as it's a 5-year anniversary and I'm turning 40 next year I thought it's time to do it again!

Macmillan were brilliant with my Dad while looking after him, and more family and friends have been touched by cancer over these last 5 years, with Macmillan still working their magic. Got so much love for them. They had a genuine affection for my Dad, and a real relationship in helping us deal with his cancer. These people do so much work that goes unseen, and without them life would've been much harder.

If you ever have to deal with a loved one with cancer, I'm sure you'll come across Macmillan and their help.

Please give whatever you can, it really is massively appreciated and it's a fantastic cause.

Big Love, Eamonn

PS. It was also Mo Farah's 1st London marathon in 2014, and somehow he managed to beat me, I shall not let that happen again!
