PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) is widely understood to be a profile on the autism spectrum, involving the avoidance of everyday demands and the use of ‘social’ strategies as part of this. PDA individuals share autistic characteristics and also have many of the ‘key features’ of a PDA profile. We provide information, support and training about PDA for individuals, families and professionals. We aim to increase acceptance and understanding of a PDA profile and to improve outcomes for individuals and families by focusing everyone involved on ‘what helps’. Each year we answer around 2,300 enquiries from people seeking support and deliver training to 2,400 parents, carers and professionals. Our information resources reach 500,000 people a year via our website and social media. All our services are run by the PDA community and include: • an enquiry line • an online forum • information resources • training • conference every other year We also share good practice, work in partnership with other organisations and promote research on PDA.

Story

From  2013 I started getting very stressed and my parents tried giving me a bit of support and from then I gradually started getting more stressed. in 2014 my family and me went to CAMHS they did not diagnose me but my parents knew I had autism so I went to 2 brilliant doctors who finally diagnosed me with PDA.

PDA is a type of autism where you hate demands. during all of this I was still at school and was getting very stressed  and refusing to go to school. So I thought the best thing was to move schools so I am now at home looking for a new school.

I want to raise money for the PDA society because not many people know about it or understand it. Living with PDA can be hard because everything is a demand and demands make me feel anxious and annoyed. More information can be found here: http://www.pdasociety.org.uk. please donate to help.
