Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our page.

The three of us will be climbing each of the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales , all in a 24 hour period, non-stop, including driving between the mountains in aid of Motor Neurone Disease

Why? Partly because it is a popular challenge we have all been keen to do, but the driving reason is the story of Paul Coulston and his family.

Paul was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) also known internationally as ALS, ELA, or Lou Gehrig’s disease in April 2012 and given between 6 months and 5 years.  As if not enough to cope with Paul’s wife Clare had only recently beaten aggressive oesophageal cancer with a 30% chance of staying clear past 5 years. Paul and Clare have two children.

If you want to know more about the Coulston’s you can read their story here:

Raising money for the MND association.

Motor Neurone Disease is a horrible illness and one which gets insufficient awareness. It’s the disease that most health professionals say they’d least like to get. It’s the most cruel and undignified end.

MND is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting.

The Motor Neurone Disease Association is the only national charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland that funds and promotes Global research into the disease and provides support for people affected by MND

You can find out more about what the MND Association do here:

So please give what you can to help further research into MND and provide support for people affected by MND.

A bit about what we are physically doing…

The UK national three peaks is popular but extremely hard challenge taking a maximum of 24 hours.

The first peak is Ben Nevis in Scotland climbing from sea level to its peak at 1344m a trek of 10.5miles (17 km).

After this we drive 262miles (418km) through the night to Scafel Pike in England, climbing up to its peak at 977m a trek of 9.5miles (15km).

Following this we then drive to Mount Snowden in Wales and climb to its summit of 1085m a trek of 7miles (11km)…. Then we go to bed!

So to summarise:

Trek 27miles (43km)

Vertical Ascent 3,071m

Drive 460miles (740km)

So once again…. Please give what you can to support us!

Our sincere thanks

Ben, Will, Richard

p.s a big thanks to Kevin Stuart the unsung hero, who is doing the driving. A challenge in itself to drive that far!...
