Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon 2023 · 14 May 2023 ·

The Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon will take place on Sunday 14 May 2023 and has been inspired by former Leeds Rhinos captain, Kevin Sinfield OBE, and his fundraising challenges in recent years in support of his friend and team mate Rob Burrow.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My running journey was inspired by the courage of my mum who lost her battle with motor neurone disease in 2004. She loved rugby 🏉 and was thrilled to hold the Rugby Union World Cup when Martin Johnson and team mates visited Loros Hospice in 2003. Rugby League may not have been her first love but I am sure she would have had immense respect and admiration for Rob Burrow and applauded Kevin Sinfield’s amazing fundraising in support of his friend.

My mum was always active, taking great pride in her beautiful garden and enjoying walks in the countryside with her husband, Gerald, and other friends/family. The loss of her physical self was heart breaking but with amazing support and sheet determination mum  fought to keep her independence as long as possible. It is that courage that keeps me going on long or difficult runs and will spur me on through winter training and the unknown period between the two marathons.

Every day that I run, I reflect on the joy that physical activity brings. Having completed 2 marathons (Edinburgh and London) this year I have decided to push myself in 2023 to do London (23 April) and Leeds (14 May). I am hoping that with the support of friends and family that this crazy 60+ year old can do this.

My aim is to raise £2000 towards research and much needed support for those living with MND.
