Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

It's important to have challenges in life. When you are faced with your own mortality you are given a new perspective on life, one of urgency and, I hate to use a cliche, but, a need to live life to the full. However, as time goes on I've found it's easy to fall back into the rat race of life and forget that you should get up and do things right now - not wait for a better time.

I don't consider myself having survived Breast Cancer, I consider myself to have survived so far. The threat of it coming back will always be there. I've booked this trek as I hope I'll be here to do it, it's another goal, another date on the calendar.

My last trek to Machu Picchu was inspiring, not only was it fantastic to visit a country like Peru, but it was amazing meeting the other 30 people on the trek, who all had their own story to why they were doing the trek and for who they were doing the trek.

It was very hard work at times, but the feeling I got when we reached the highest point - a peak in the middle of the Andes - the first time I saw Machu Picchu from the Sun Gate, even the crippling pains in my legs and breathlessness you get at altitude - they all made me feel alive. I've got to do it again. Got to.

St Richards Hospice run a support group, 'Snowdrops' for young women with cancer. There are 10 meetings over 20 weeks. It offers support and advice as well as alternative therapy, styling advice and biscuits. Don't forget the cup of tea and biscuits. I still meet up with some of the ladies I met on this course and their support is priceless. I need to make sure that this course is available to other ladies who really need it.

I was diagnosed with stage 3 aggressive Breast Cancer. Not great, but I have a chance. I have the threat that it will come back, could pop up anywhere at any time and if it does it will be incurable. But I'm not waiting for it, and distraction is the key! If it does come back, I will be relying on places like St Richards Hospice to make it as easy as possible... I raising money for them, just in case... totally selfish gesture, of course...
