Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

At 06:00 on 28 June I am taking part in the 5km "fun" run organised by the International Conference on Plasma Science & Symposium on Fusion Engineering in Chicago.

Now 5km might not seem much but the last time I did any running was 38 years ago when I deliberately set a staggeringly slow time for the 400m to avoid school athletics altogether.  Since then I haven't run any distance.   I have been training and hope to complete the course in less than 40 minutes.

As a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, I am supporting their Physics for development programme, to bring physics to developing nations as a route out of poverty.

The IOP’s Physics for Development programme challenges the obstacles to physics education existing in some of the poorest countries in the world. Through the dissemination of physics, we aim to support local communities towards greater opportunities for the future.

Please help by donating any amount or add to the challenge by sponsoring every minute under 40 of my completion time.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
