Epilepsy Action is creating a world without limits for everyone affected by epilepsy, connecting people with others, and providing support and information you can trust. We’re calling out the misunderstanding, prejudice and barriers that stop people with epilepsy living their best life.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the London Marathon in April for Epilepsy Action. This is a charity which supports a cause which means a great deal to me, and my whole family, as my uncle tragically died from an epileptic seizure as a young man.

Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions in the world, which is caused by excess electrical activity in the brain, and currently around 1 in every 100 people in the UK are living with Epilepsy. In 65% of cases the cause is unknown and roughly 30% of sufferers live with uncontrolled seizures that do not respond to medication. These statistics highlight how important it is to fundraise and support medical research to further investigate the underlying causes and subsequent treatments for the condition. Unfortunately, epilepsy is extremely under-funded and broadly invisible compared to other medical conditions. Currently for every £1 per person with Parkinson’s disease, there is 9p per person with epilepsy for life changing, life-saving research, which really shows just how essential it is to spread awareness for the condition. It is important to me that we strive to ensure that no one has to face epilepsy alone and, where possible, everyone receives sufficient medical support required to reduce their seizures (and maybe even stop them completely), and raising money for Epilepsy Action seems like a great place to start!

My uncle was a really active person and I am excited to take on this challenge in his memory. A donation of any size would be greatly appreciated and will be used to help transform the lives of people still living with epilepsy today.
