Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am taking on the challenge (for me!) of climbing Scaffel Pike to raise money for Sight Savers on the 30th of October. They give the most vulnerable access to eye care treatments and operations so they can prevent sight loss and restore vision. They believe that ‘small ripples make big waves’ as good vision for people in disadvantaged communities allows them to continue in education or go to work to better their quality of life. A small contribution can pay for a basic operation to remove cataracts or even pay for antibiotics to cure eye infections that if left untreated would cause a child to go blind - something they will have to live with for the rest of their life. Better yet I am being supported by my employer (thank you Mortgage Required) as they will donate 33p for every £1 I raise.

I believe we should never take our vision for granted.as it is something we are so fortunate to have. Many of you will know I have had my own journey with sight loss as I have spent the past 8 years with poor or no vision. I was diagnosed with Keratoconus in both eyes at the start of my twenties and had to have a cornea transplant in 2019 to restore the vision I had completely lost in my right eye. My vision drastically improved after this but eventually the steroid eye drops gave me a cataract which led to the deterioration of my vision again. However, fast forward to 2022 and the cataract has been removed and the transplant is fully settled and now I officially have 2020 vision!

I spent the majority of my twenties not being able to see clearly what was around me but luckily we have access to healthcare and the amazing NHS. Many countries around the world do not have this privilege so now it is my turn to give back (now my vision is good enough to climb a mountain safely!)

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for donations of any size.

See you on the other side 👀👁🗻🏔🧗‍♀️
