Story
As some people will know since October 2017 I have knowingly suffered with poor mental health and struggled with anxiety, Poor Mental health is something that many of us struggle with and suffer with on a day to day basis but not many talk about it.
Many people struggle to function on a normal day to day level, whilst others are able to manage it and can live a steady life, I have been to both ends of this scale.
I struggled with getting up and being motivated, battled with thoughts in my head that told me I wasn't good enough and the anxiety of being outside, talking and socialising with others whether it was work, family or friends.
My mental health was that poor, I was off work, missed family gatherings, lost friends and broke down within myself, I felt broken and needed to build myself up again and this is the struggle that many have, once you fall to that low it is difficult to rise again.
But I am lucky, I had a family around me that wouldn't let me suffer alone and were always there for me, they gave me time to figure things out in my head and let me talk when it was time to listen.
Not everyone is that lucky and I want to try and help and make a difference, there is no cure for poor mental health and anxiety but we can all work together to make it easier to manage and maintain it for ourselves and others around us, we can all spend some time talking about it and listening to others.
So please, help me out, donate and help me raise awareness for the many that are still struggling and don't have a voice for others to listen to or a shoulder to lean on during them difficult times, help me to help others.
I am doing this as one of the big things that has helped me with my mental health has been running, focusing on pacing, distance, breathing, cadence has all been good for me and has helped me to get out, clear my head, push myself and stay healthy and fit whilst trying to inspire others and making loads of new friends along the way.
Running has not just become a hobby but it is now a part of my life, a Saturday without parkrun or a week without a club run just seems odd now, I even take my trainers on holiday with me, running has changed me and the way I am, the way I look at things and I can't praise it enough. Especially as at school I hated cross country and would always be near the end, having friends finish early and run back to cheer me on.
Less than 5 years ago being nearly 18 stone and now over 4 stone lighter, confident in myself, healthier and fitter, wearing clothes that are the same size I wore at 20 years old, but its not about the weight its the mindset and well-being that is the best results for me, for me it has been a massive personal journey and this will be the prize for me to give back.
