When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community.

Story

Life changed instantly for me at the end of May 2018 while on a family holiday with my wife and 6yo daughter to see Mickey at Walt Disney Florida “the happiest place on earth”.  Over a short period of time I suffered a number of Strokes leaving me partially blind, unable to stand or walk and confined to a wheelchair.

Jersey Stroke provided specialist support to my family & I from the moment we arrived back to the island and  have continued to guide us through the ups and downs of life after stroke since that time.

By raising money for the charity it allows them to continue to support people like me on an individual & family basis as well as organising group events to get older Stroke Survivors out on a more regular basis.

Recovery is a long & often very tough journey made easier by the guidance and support provided from The Jersey Stroke team.

At the start of the year I was unable to balance on a bike and thinking of cycling from one parish to another was a pipe dream.  After 7 months of hard work, dedication and stubbornness & as part of my road to recovery I will be attempting a 380 mile cycle from London to Amsterdam in 4 days to give back to the charity that has helped us as a family so much.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, any donation (no matter how small) will help this amazing charity to continue supporting our community.
