We provide information and peer support to help women and families affected by PP

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Months ago I decided I wanted to do a walk from my home in Sheffield to the Mother & Baby Unit in Nottingham who cared for me after Lucy was born to raise money for Action on Postpartum Psychosis (APP). Life has changed a lot since then  so I'm going to use my daily exercise in May to try to walk the distance -  35 miles. Since I started Andy has challenged me to do double the distance and walk 70 miles in May. I would be grateful for any sponsorship for my walk.

UK Maternal Mental Health Week runs from 4th-10th May. This year's theme is Supporting Mums during difficult times. I had the most difficult of times after Lucy was born as I suffered from postpartum  psychosis and severe postnatal depression and anxiety. The lockdown we are currently living through has brought back memories of being sectioned on the Mother & Baby Unit.

Last year I started volunteering as a Regional Rep for APP. APP supports mothers and their families to understand postpartum psychosis during the illness and throughout their recovery and works to raise awareness of this serious maternal mental health illness to medical professionals and the public. Since I started volunteering I've spoken several times sharing my story and experiences and contributed to discussions about support for those with postpartum psychosis and their families.

Anyone can get postpartum psychosis. It is a serious condition but it is treatable and mothers do recover. I volunteer with APP to raise awareness and to say thank you to those who supported me. I can now say it was not my fault that I got ill and know that my daughter who is nearly 3 is full of fun and kindness and was not affected by it.
