Story
Over the past 6 months, myself, my family and friends have raised £1677 for Marie Curie and the Motor Neurone Disease Association and to try and reach the £2000 mark, I've decided to have my hair shaved off if we get there by the end of March!!
All of the fundraising has been done in memory of my mum, Bernadette, who passed away after battling with Motor Neurone Disease.
MND is an awful disease which attacks each part of your body in turn, starting with muscles and in the end, attacking the organs we need to stay alive. There is currently no cure for MND and the Motor Neurone Disease Association is the only national charity, covering England, Wales and Northern Ireland who are looking into this disease and providing the necessary support for the patients suffering with it. In the last few years, MND has had more public interest, due to the film, The Theory of Everything and the ALS Bucket challenge. Both helped to raise the profile of the disease, but research still needs to be done to help the patients deal with the day to day struggles and look for a cure.
When my hair is cut off, most of it will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, who will use it to make wigs for children who loose their hair due to illness.
If you know me, you'll know that my hair has always been its natural colour, I've never thought about dying it at all. In the run up to the event, I will be using hair chalk to add temporary colour to my hair, mostly in the colours of the MNDA logo and afterwards, I aim to continue with this.
