Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We - Emma Burbidge & Lilly Hopkins - are running the Paris Marathon on the 9th of April 2017 in Memory of Pippa Howarth; to raise awareness and money for The UK Sepsis Trust Limited.
At just three years old Pippa was taken away overnight on 10th April 2014. She developed sepsis after suffering pneumonia, and passed away just hours after being admitted to hospital.
Sepsis is a life threatening condition that arises when the body’s
response to an infection injures its own tissues and organs. Sepsis is one of our biggestkillers! Shocking, since so few people are aware of it, but sepsis claims 37,000 lives every year in the UK and costs the NHS £2.5 billion a year. By helping us to ensure the reliable delivery of basic sepsis care (the ‘Sepsis Six’), you can help us to save 12,500 lives every year and reduce costs by an estimated £160 million.
Pippa would have been six in January 2017, but she was taken too soon
There was no way our run could be for anyone other than Pippa, for her family, and her friends.
These were her mothers words on her birthday:
"Whoever said that time heels never lost a child, and had to walk
behind a 3ft coffin. Today I should have a living room full of presents
waiting to be unwrapped but instead we have a solitary cake which will
have the candles blown out by her brothers. No words will ever explain
how much you are loved and missed especially today. Happy 6th Birthday moomin, you are and always will be my flurry of pink amidst a sea of blue..... and red power rangers. Xxx"
Please, please make yourself aware of this vicious condition.
