The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.

Story

Last year while we stood cheering on two friends, Jenny and Al running the marathon, I watched the blind runners  running with their guideswith tears n my eyes. I have always joked with my husband Simon that "One day I'll run the London Marathon!" but given my love of chocolate, cheese and being a lazy couch potato, one day is where my plans firmly stayed.......until I watched those blind runnerrs.

I have been registered blind since May 2008, having a genetic degenerative eye condition Dominant Optic Attrophy which has meant that from the age of 12, my eyesight has been deteriorating. Along with the incredible network of friends, family and colleagues who have supported me, my two Guide Dogs, firstly the beloved Isaac who sadly passed away last year and then the irrepressible Gus, both black labs, have been life changing in so many ways.I cannot speak highly enough of the difference Guide Dogs make to those with visual impairments and I'm running to raise money to train up more dos to give other visually impaired people the incredible blessing that I have had.

I write a blog about living with sight loss. The link is www.emssilverlinings.wordpress.com
