Story

Welcome to my London Marathon profile page for Diabetes UK.

On 10th February 2019, aged 7 , my son Adam was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

I was told there would never be a cure — that his diagnosis was for life.

Type 1 is not caused by diet or lifestyle, it’s an autoimmune condition. It means daily insulin, constant blood sugar checks, and planning every drink, meal, sports match, and day out just to stay alive. There are no breaks, no days off, and no escape.

From the very start i had to become a nurse overnight, with very little training, just to keep him safe.

As a family we had to adjust to a completely different life, where planning and medication became part of every single day.

But thanks to Diabetes UK, I no longer believe there will never be a cure. Their research gives me real hope that in Adam’s lifetime, this disease could be beaten. They also provided us with family workshops and support that carried us through the dark early days, when everything felt overwhelming.

So when people ask why I run ..

I will run every mile for Adam , who refuses to let diabetes define him, I’m so incredibly proud of his courage and determination to make it “irrelevant to his success “ when it affects every aspect of his life.

For every child and every family beginning this journey, so they know they are not alone.

And I will run ,walk or crawl if I have too every mile for hope — hope that one day no child or there family will have to live with type 1 diabetes again.

We will show up as a family - supporting the Diabetic community and cheering on everyone who runs for a cause close to their hearts . We would love it if you could join us, share our page, fundraise or donate!

Every donation helps turn hope into reality. Together, we can change what type 1 diabetes means for children like Adam 🫶🏽
