Hello! My name is Enia, I am 25 years old. I am originally from Michoacan Mexico and I am living in Edinburgh, Scotland. I have been part of some social movements before, from causes like climate crisis to financial education, mexican sign language inclusion to gender violence prevention. I don't identify myself with one cause but as many as my heart can handle.
This time I am running the 2025 Edinburgh Half Marathon for Medical Aid for Palestinians in order to raise as much money as possible. They are a fantastic Charity and I would be so grateful if you could take the time to sponsor me to help the cause and to motivate me in my training!
I have never run a distance like this before and running is not my favorite thing to do but I wanted to do something challenging both physically and mentally to get out of my comfort zone while helping a cause I feel identified with. I am not Palestinian but I don't need to be to feel solidarity, anger, indignation and care about the massive human rights violations that are happening right now in Gaza.
Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. They provide immediate medical aid to those in great need, while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system.
After two months of a temporary ceasefire in Gaza, Israel has resumed its brutal military assault, shattering the ceasefire and unleashing more suffering on Palestinians. Hospitals are at breaking point, medical supplies are running dangerously low, and families are once again being forced from their homes with nowhere safe to turn. The world cannot stay silent as Palestinians endure these atrocities yet again. Israel's total siege of aid and cutoff of electricity to Gaza is a cruel act of collective punishment against Palestinians, in clear violation of international law. Unless it is lifted, the effects will be catastrophic – diseases are spreading, babies are dying from hypothermia and there is real risk of mass starvation. The UK Government, and the world at large, must not stand by and allow this to become the new normal.
2025 is the year when it doesn't matter if is one cause at a time or all at once, the system will shake for sure. It will as long as we're speaking up, being true to our humanity, protesting in the streets or, this time running in the streets. We can show that even when the world is burning we are full of water.
"Let's not lose our indignation, rage, courage, and above all, the search for different realities. Let's not allow pain, sadness, fear, and resignation to settle in us completely. Let's not get used to police brutality, the snatching of rights, war, violence. We need to rebuild hope."
We are resistance, we are revolution and we are the water that nurtures hope.
