Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are completing a 8km sponsored walk from our Eye Clinic at Calderdale Royal Hospital to our Eye Clinic at Acre Mills, Huddersfield to raise funds for the department. Funds raised will go towards improving patient care and experience, developing supportive initiatives for patients and staff alike and supporting further training and development.

Our first project is starting with our youngest patients, developing our Paediatric Bravery Reward Scheme. Any healthcare setting can be daunting and a scary experience for children, especially Ophthalmology which is quite invasive and an area where children are unable to 'look away' whilst having investigations completed. We want to make the visit more of a positive experience, engaging children in a scavenger type hunt through out the clinical tasks and once completed gaining a bravery prize. This project will enable us to improve and build positive working relationships between patients, families and clinical staff and most importantly a exceptional outcome for the child.

The walk is a great opportunity to promote one culture of care embedded in the trusts values, enhance staff health and well being and boost team morale, all whilst raising funds for the department.

About the charity

We raise funds for all wards and departments at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, enhancing the experience of patients, their families and staff, over and above what NHS funding alone can deliver. Together we can make a real difference to local people when they need it most.
