Story

On Saturday 17th August, 2019, 9 Police Officers from Forth Valley Police Division, Scotland, will be climbing the UK's 3 highest peaks (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & Snowdon) all within a 24 hours period; this will include the travel time.

This challenge is in support of our colleague, Cameron (Cammy) Shanks and his chosen charity, Maggie's Forth Valley. Cammy has recently been diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer.

Cammy had 30 years Police Service with Central Scotland Police, during which he spent most of his service as a Dog Handler. After his retirement from the Police Service, Cammy dedicated himself for another 12 years to the training and development of new recruits at the Police Scotland Training College at Tulliallan, where he continued to work up until his diagnosis.

Cammy has always been a very popular figure, both within the Police Service as a renowned Dog Handler and within the training environment at the training college and is well known within the Forth Valley for his DJ skills.

In his personal life, Cammy is married to to Claire and has 4 grown up children, with a new grandchild recently born.

After his diagnosis, Cammy has been given a life expectancy of 6-10 months. Despite this diagnosis, he has remained positive for the sake of his family and friends, however he has told us of his struggles whilst alone......"I have turned to Maggie's for the help and support that I need, and I have to say, words do not describe how much their support helps to both me and my family".

Maggie’s Centre Forth Valley provides free practical, emotional and
social support and advice to people with cancer and their family and friends; providing professional staff on hand to offer support to sufferers needs.
