Please support me in my quest to raise money for MIND inline with World Mental Health Day on Saturday 10th October, where I will be doing my bit and sharing my story and poetry on Monday 5th, Thursday 8th and Saturday 10th October at a week long event in Digbeth, Birmingham. Any donation to reach my ambitious target of £500 in the next month would be massively, wholeheartedly appreciated. I am nearly there!

MY STORY

Back in 2008 I spiralled into depression due to work stress and personal problems and I coped through an eating disorder and blow outs at weekends to escape. I had a major breakdown and was hospitalised resulting in a diagnosis of rapid cycling bipolar where your body is pushed to its limits flung from high and low mental and physical states. I was medically retired from my senior management job.

After eighteen months of battling instability, medication trials and professional treatment I started my first stage of recovery.

I volunteered for MIND the mental health charity sharing my story to raise awareness, educate others and inspire hope. I was a shaking wreck and thanks to their help over five years I have become a confident, self assured girl who can stand up and speak out.

I now volunteer with MIND, Mental Health First Aid England, write and feature in magazines, have written a book, blog and lecture in universities and spend my life advocating for mental health and different charities including SANE, Mental Health Foundation and BEAT (national eating disorder charity). All the work is flexible depending on my health and I am still under continual professional care, however, I have built a work structure that is there when I am able.

We all have mental health, we all experience stress and difficulties and MIND are a fab charity supporting, giving advice and ultimately giving the opportunity for people like myself to live and manage on a day to day basis with our mental health issues. They help us find our purpose again.

Love from a motivated Fliss, who thanks MIND for her new beginnings to do her never ending valuable campaigning.
