Story

Qantas Cabin Crew UK are delighted to support the FlyPink international
aviation concept to raise awareness and money for Breast cancer for the month of October 2016.

FlyPink and the idea to swap epaulettes was set up by Qantas
Captain Susan McHaffie in Australia after Qantas flew a pink aircraft to raise awareness for breast cancer and Captain McHaffie wanted to find a way for Qantas Flight crew more involved.  Last year during October 2015 I liked to spot those amongst our Tech crews who had swapped their silver Qantas epaulettes and were indeed ‘Flying Pink’.
In 2016, I'm really pleased that Qantas are expanding the concept from just pilots to include all Cabin Crew who are now able to make a donation to a UK breast cancer charity and swap their silver wings for pink ones, and for ground staff are able to show their support by wearing pink badges.

Qantas in London will most definitely be turning pink for the month of October!

Qantas’s London base are extremely proud to be able to
support this fantastic initiative and all of our Cabin Crew are now able to make a £7-10 cash donation to swap their silver wings for our pink wings and join Qantas colleagues and the FlyPink global aviation industry initiative to raise Breast Cancer awareness and funds.

Currently Thomas Cook pilots and Qantas’s London cabin crew base
are the only UK airlines to take part but long term we’d like more airlines to participate and join the FlyPink campaign.

In terms of motivation and why Breast Cancer Care : I have
used Breast Cancer Care’s services during this last year since myself being diagnosed with Breast Cancer in January 2016. Breast Cancer Care are a national charity which i felt was important as our cabin crew live all over the UK. Breast Cancer Care provide free essential support, information and advice right when you need it. They also have a lot of support available for young people being diagnosed and I have used their services and expect to do again so in the future.

Every year 60,000 people in the UK will be faced with the words 'You have Breast Cancer'. Its so critical there's a place to get additional information from and have some of your hundreds of questions answered and have very practical support- especially for young ladies.

So for every Cabin Crew member and Ground Staff colleague in our London base who makes the £7-10 cash donation to swap their wings and FlyPink- the money you paid for the wings will be transferred to this just giving page and to supporting the work of Breast Cancer Care.

Any additional donations are very welcome and indeed our passengers are encouraged to go to http://www.flypink.net/ and under donate click on the UK flag and get involved!

Please feel free to get in touch with any questions regarding where your FlyPink donations are going for the month of October.
