Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As some of you know over the last couple of years I have been training to compete in triathlon and duathlon events. I only took up the sport after Max, Finlay and Annie were born and havent looked back! My first season went better than I thought it would, winning a few events and picking up some age group prizes here and there, so last year I decided to take it a bit more seriously! After enrolling on one of Driventotri.com  big weekenders of running, biking, and swimming, I decided to get a coach.   A month later I competed at Budapest (see picture,) in the European Duathlon championships which was last May!. It was my first experience of running 10k, biking 40k then running 5k, and in my niavity I failed to fuel properly, blowing out on the bike! - I crawled back, placed 6th in my age group - disappointed as I knew I could have achieved a much better position, but learnt a lot!

Unfortunately 2009 was not a great season for me due to illness and injury, however, I tackled my first 2 half ironman disciplines, thanks to Harry (my coach) coming 8th and 2nd. Now with 2010 season approaching fast, I have set myself some even bigger goals! Hoping that I will get injury free, I aim to compete in Alpe D'Huez long distance in July (1.2 mile swim, 75mile bike up Alpe D'Huez just to run half a marathon at the top....crazy!) I also would like to qualify for the European and World Duathlon Championships , if I can start running properly again. (Well I did qualify for the Europeans, and brought home a bronze medal! Very pleased, although still havent sorted out my running injury!)

Therefore as you can probably imagine, I am training hard, when I can (thanks to a very supportive family and good coach), as its not just about finishing for me, but finishing well!  Prior to this event I have entered Wimbleball 70.3 Ironman, as it is one of the UKs most challenging half ironmans and is excellent preparation for France! I made the decision to complete this race for charity to support the causes as best as I could whilst aiming to achieve my own goals. I know how much you will all appreciate how valuable these charities are to all of us and I hope that you will support me in my goal to raise as much money as I can for these charities whilst I strive to reach my own personal goals this year as well. I have now started a blog which you can find on franbungay.blogspot.com if interested!
