Story
Afrikids is a small charity working in Ghana helping children and families. I have been fortunate enough during the course of my work to get to know Afrikids and those that work for it in this country. The funds I have raised so far (except for the offline donations) will be directed towards Afrikids work with children suffering with disabilities in Sirigu, some of whom I have visited. This project is particularly close to my hear and by supporting these children and those you are part of something very special. .
Small charities are often ignored in favour of the more well known ones. The administration costs of Afrikids are a very small percentage so most of the money you give goes towards helping those most in need.
• £10 is enough to fund accommodation for a mother whose child is in hospital receiving vital healthcare, ensuring they can remain close by throughout their child’s treatment (rather than having to travel significant distances to visit them)
• £25 is enough to fund a special supportive chair for a child with Cerebral Palsy so that they can sit independently
• £50 is enough to fund a facilitator to run two training workshops for mothers and caregivers of children with disabilities, on practical ways to improve the quality of life for their child
• £100 is enough to fund the cardboard, cement paper and rope required to make assistive furniture for children with disabilities so that they can sit and stand independently
• £250 is enough to fund two weeks’ salary for an AfriKids Ghana Field Officer, who will regularly visit families in their homes to ensure children with disabilities are progressing well and that families are adequately supported to help their children grow into happy and healthy young people
