Frannie passed away peacefully on Thursday 20th January.  There wasn’t any struggle or discomfort.  We feel so fortunate he’s been able to spend his final weeks in his own bed, surrounded by those he loved. We couldn’t have asked for a more personal and peaceful final few weeks.  He was a much loved dad, grandad, husband, little brother, friend and doctor, who will be sorely missed.

We are a deeply moved by people's parting thoughts and memories of dear Fran.  Certain defining characteristics shine through these messages: gentleness, a mischievous humour, a deeply caring nature, kindness, generosity, selflessness... It's clear he lived his life in a way which those near him found inspiring and admirable.  Everyone  just loved to have him around.... that deep belly laugh, the twinkly eyed teasing, the cups of tea, the walks & bike rides, a listening ear, the thoughtful advice, the enthusiasm and good fun...

During the final few months of his life, St Gemmas provided us with fantastic care and support.  Therefore, rather than flowers, we are asking friends, family and those who knew him to make a contribution to the hospice in his name.  As a much loved general practitioner at Chapel Allerton medical centre, who has spent so much of his life caring for others, we feel this is a cause which he would have been proud to have in his name.

You are encouraged to leave messages and memories of Fran, for family and friends to read :)

A personal note from me (Fran's son Joe): I have written a song for my dear Dad.  It is a deeply personal song and the most challenging and emotional piece of music I've ever written. The song is being released as a ‘pay what you want’ download. All the money raised will be donated to St Gemmas Hospice, who did such a fantastic job of caring for my Dad in his final months. You are encouraged to share the song, as the more exposure it receives, the more we can raise for St. Gemma's.
