We fund research, provide support, campaign to bring more than hope to those affected.

Story

I was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in late March 2016. Despite chemo treatment which my body rejected, by late July I was told that my tumour had grown by 80% and there was nothing more that the hospital could do. I was advised that I had between two to four months life expectation. I contacted the Royal Marsden Hospital at Sutton and they arranged an appointment with their drug development unit. Following tests I was offered a possible life-line to join 100 other folks scattered around the globe for the first ever human trials of two revolutionary new drugs. There was a risk but when you have no other options then one will try anything. These two drugs have been a revolution for those pancreatic patients that meet a specific criteria and it's now over five years since I started the trial. In my case the funding came from the drug developer plus the NHS. Unfortunately, in late September of 2021 I developed an unrelated Colon Cancer which is now being treated so fingers crossed I will be fit enough to undertake this Ride London/Essex ride for Pancreatic Cancer UK. That said, folks are already providing me a great deal of support - thank you all.

UPDATE: WE DID IT! Almost £12,000 raised so far

Thank you all for so kindly donating to my fundraising ride for Pancreatic Cancer UK in recognition of all their support throughout my fight against Pancreatic Cancer. Myself, together with nine friends that cycle together every Friday were raising funds for PCUK on the 29th July. Our target was to raise over £10,000. In 27c temperatures our team set off last Friday morning to tackle a very challenging route through the Cotswolds that included climbing a total of over 2500 feet of hilly terrain. We did it despite a few crashes, falls and near heat exhaustion. Most importantly we managed, with your help, to exceed the £10,000 target we had set ourselves and with money still coming in, we are confident of possibly reaching close to £12.000. It's not too late to help, please help me to get to our target and support the team at PCUK who have helped me survive my pancreatic cancer for the past six years.

Despite my own experiences, it’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within 3 months. Survival rates have improved enormously for most cancers, yet for pancreatic cancer, this is not the case. Pancreatic Cancer UK is dedicated to taking on this injustice using every possible means. They're supporting people with pancreatic cancer now, campaigning, and funding vital research to transform the future. Help them to make the breakthroughs that people with pancreatic cancer so desperately need and create more stories like my own.

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.
