Story

Hello team,

I hope you are all well. It would mean a great deal to Charlie and I if you could take a few minutes to read this quick message.

After having, what we thought to be an inconsequential conversation, Charlie and I have decided to take on a bit of a challenge. Immediately, a running challenge was out of the question because that would be far too easy 🤥. Therefore, we landed on the idea of a cycle so we could cover some serious ground. When Charlie mentioned ‘let’s go to Geneva’, I thought he was joking, but here we are. After a slight change of plan, we will now be flying to Geneva on the 14th of October so we can make our way back to our London finish line, the Mall.

Charlie and I have both had our lives impacted, along with our families, by Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Charlie lost his Grandmother on his 16th birthday after a battle against Alzheimer’s, and I lost my Grandpa back when I was 12 to Dementia. Moreover, this summer the Towne’s were gutted to lose Grandpa Jim. He knew of the trip and was very excited for us. Probably a little more excited than I currently am, with it only being a few days away.

As a result of this and the care we have seen provided by certain charities and carers, Charlie and I wanted to give a little back to support the research that goes on into both diseases. It’s a long shot, and we are entirely aware that our little challenge won’t change the world, but hopefully, it will provide support to a fantastic charity that bids to make our understanding and ability to deal with the diseases that little bit easier. The current rate suggests that 1 in 14 people in the UK over 65 will have Dementia which is alarming considering there is no known cure.

Luckily, we have Paddy ‘Cavendish’ Langdale on our side who has kindly informed us about all the of the kit we will need on the way. After he firstly suggested that this was all a little bit stupid, he has come around to thinking we might actually be able to complete this now.

We initially set what we thought was an incredibly lofty target. Thanks to everyone who has donated, we have smashed the £10,000 target and hopefully we can keep pressing on to raise as much for this great charity as possible. Anything that can be donated at all would be hugely appreciated, and it will undoubtedly give Charlie and I an extra push up the many hills on the way back to London. During the cycle, we will give updates on our Just Giving page and across social media. Please do check so you can watch some, presumably, very funny videos of two blokes in a lot of pain.
