Hi I am running the Fairlands valley challenge 2019 on Sunday the 21st of July 2019 in order to raise money for the charity GAIN, an organisation dedicated to helping people diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome .

Approximately 1 out of every 100,000 people will be affected by this condition, a rare but serious auto-immune disease that involves rapid onset muscle weakness, loss of sensation, fatigue and respiratory issues that can lead to paralysis.

Around September 2018 I suddenly became extremely ill with this disease and It came to a shock on how fast GBS had an affect on my body where I had to be put in a induced coma and on a ventilator in order to aid my breathing . I was also placed in the intensive care unit for a few weeks at Lister Hospital Stevenage who helped me to recovery and provided physiotherapist in order to teach me on how to walk again. Therefore I understand how terrifying and isolating the experience is with having GBS and being on a ventilator.

GBS is a rare disorder and Mis-diagnosis is common and can be fatal due to respiratory failure. Therefore research into GBS is vital, it will save lives and ensure people make the best possible recovery.
