Movember has built a global men’s health movement, funding over 1,300 projects, changing the way health services reach and support men. Movember is taking on 3 of the biggest issues facing men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide. Movember is for everyone, not just for men.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

At some point in the next 2 years, I plan to attempt to beat the FKT (fastest known time) for the Camino de Santiago, which was set a few years prior at 6 days 11 hours. The run would begin in Irun and finish at the Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. El Camino de Norte is roughly 830km long with around 11,000 meters of elevation along the way - this requires about 18 to 20 hours of running/hiking per day for 6 continuous days - with only 10 or so hours of sleep total for the week.  While the probability of my success is slim, my determination is not, and I have already gathered a small team which will join me for the attempt.

Overall, the secondary goal is to finish within 8 days minimum. I will be burning upwards of 7,000 calories per day and needing to run/hike about 100-150km per day, in order to make the timing, so nutrition will play a key factor.

While this challenge will be the most difficult of my life, many fellow men are suffering from more severe challenges such as various forms of cancer or mental health issues. My focus for this challenge is on the mental health component, as millions of men suffer in silence without access to effective programmes or strategies to better manage their lives and more fully interact with their loved ones.

I’ve have dealt with depression and anxiety at key times in my life, but it wasn't until recently that I decided to take a stand against my own and others' struggles, after realising how much it affected those around me. This conversation MUST be normalised so that more men come forwards and begin to challenge the negative aspects of masculinity, we develop scalable models to improve mental health, learn to stay connected with friends, family & partners, until eventually.. we bring these conversations out of the health system.

My team and I, as well as the Midnight Runners, are looking for sponsors, as well as any persons open to supporting me on this journey. If you know of any physio, nutrition, or sports experts willing to join me on this ridiculous expedition, please reach out separately to me at gabegage@gmail.com.
