RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In Dartmouth we have a crew of young (and not so young), men and women with families at home who go out in all weathers to save and protect anyone who find themselves in trouble in our seas, rivers and beaches. Supporting these people we also have many who raise funds , running events, big and small without asking for any reward.
They also help spread the word about the charity, educate and support the selfless risks taken by our crews.
Without the volunteers and the donations and legacies their work produces the RNLI would cease to exist. The RNLI does not rely on any government assistance.

A D class inshore lifeboat, such as the one we have at RNLI Dart, costs £48,000, a B class Atlantic inshore costs £214,000 and a Shannon class all – weather lifeboat cost is £2.1m. An individual crew member annual training cost is £1,527.

In Dartmouth, there is an amazing team of volunteers who run RNLI Dart. Approximately 20 crew, land support, the fundraising committee and, our most recent addition, a Visitor Centre which is also run totally by volunteers. It is an active station. There were four call outs in June alone, including one where they saved the life of a kayaker who had fallen into the river, was unable to get out and was suffering from hypothermia by the time the crew found him in the undergrowth. They cover the River Dart from the mouth at Dartmouth up to Totnes and along the coast between Salcombe and Brixham.

I am too old to join the crew, so the least I can do is get on my bike to raise money for them, so please support me to support them!
