Hello

When I first heard about the Camino de Santiago, the Pilgrims Path, it captured my imagination. A 500 mile walk over the Pyrenees from St. Jean Pied-de Port in France to Santiago De Compostela in Spain sounded like a proper adventure. As the years passed, the idea of attempting it was in danger of finding its way onto my bucket list……..until now!

The journey is 482.3 miles along ‘The Way of St. James’ and it will take me upwards of 33 days. This route has been trodden by thousands of Pilgrims before, for numerous reasons from spiritual enlightenment to a shameless escape. The solitude of the venture alone will provide plenty of food for thought. I will carry all the stuff I need with me and stay in Pilgrim Hostels along the way.

I have decided to walk this for Surfers against Sewage because I like the work they do in attempting to keep the UK coastlines clear of waste. I have never understood why we would choose to pipe raw sewage into the sea, just as I am exacerbated with the amount of plastic and other rubbish that washes up onto the shores in the UK. All the time charities like Surfers against Sewage exist, there is a slim chance we will not be encroached upon by a plasticy pooey soup. 

As someone who enjoys getting out to the coastline of Britain a great deal and as often as I can, I thought it was high time I gave something back.

I am going to undertake this challenge in October 2016. I am financing it myself, and so all donated money will go to Surfers Against Sewage. I am setting myself a target of £1000 which I reckon is ridiculously ambitious.
