Thanks for supporting my fundraising. My journey began in June of 2020 when I was diagnosed with tongue cancer, and in August of 2020 I had an operation to remove a tumour on my tongue. I had reconstruction surgery using fat and tissue from my arm to rebuild my tongue and a skin graft from my abdomen to repair my arm. I also had lymph nodes removed from my neck. I remained in hospital for 2 weeks recovering including 4 days in a high dependency unit on a ventilator.
I then began a 6 week course of radiotherapy. This treatment caused many side effects including severe sickness which resulted in me being hospitalised for a total of about 6 weeks, being put onto a feeding tube, a syringe driver for medication and test after test for everything.
I would not have been able to get through this difficult period without the support of my wife Zoe, my children, my family and friends with words of encouragement and support. I also had lots of help from the nurses from McMillan cancer support with various medications and appointments amongst other things.
My journey continues and this fundraiser is to help support other people who may be in a similar position to me.
Thank you
