Gary Christopher Church  was killed at the Hillsborough  disaster on 15th April 1989 .Gary was 19 years old when he died.

Gary's sister Karen works for The Royal Mencap Society at The Stables as a support worker for people with learning disabilities. Karen feels it is very fitting to name the Sensory Suite and garden after Gary, as it would be a place of solitude and somewhere people can access within the community . Karen and Gary have an uncle who has Down's syndrome, so this has always been a part of their lives and it would be nice to see Gary's memory live on through this Sensory suite.

Karen with two other staff members from the Stables are doing The Run for the 96, 5k on Sunday 22nd May 2016.  Two members of staff will be taking part in the run with two of the people we support who are wheelchair users. All staff members from The Stables stand together in raising the much needed funds for the suite and this run is one of many of our fundraising days.

The Stables is a registered service supporting people with profound learning difficulties and physical disabilities. We are looking for your support as we are embarking on a large project to create a Sensory Suite. A sensory suite will provide a safe and relaxing environment that will stimulate the senses and have a calming effect on all individuals who would use it.

It is not always possible for families to access a Sensory room due to costs or time. The Sensory suite will provide  access for families and individuals within the community at the times they choose, and for a small donation to use the suite, it will be affordable and allows them to use the suite time and time again.

Your donation will help support the individuals we support at The Stables,  as well as the individuals and families within the community. These individuals can access a facility that will enhance and enrich their lives.
