Story
My long term partner Andrew died from Neuroendocrine cancer in 2006. He suggested I do a charity run and raise £300 for a cancer charity - and nearly 7 years later I think it's time I did it.
I flirted with the idea of the London marathon and decided it was definately much too far to run. Because I wanted to raise money particularly for a neuroendocrine cancer charity and because I work nearly every Saturday and most Sundays, I struggled to find one suitable.
I happened to be free for this one - so I'm doing it: the British Naturism Foundation 5K Naked Autumn run at Hockendon wood. I know 5K isn't all that far but I think the fact I have to do it naked (and it will probably be raining) makes it worthy of sponsorship! I think it would have appealed to Andrew's quirky sense of humour.
Neuroendocrine cancer is rare but can happen to anyone at any age. Causes are so far unknown. It is currently incurable, though treatable. I chose the NET Patient charity because they fund research and also promote awareness of this unusual cancer in the medical profession. Andrew was initally mis-diagnosed with small cell lung cancer: had he recieved a correct diagnosis sooner he could have lived longer and more comfortably.
The picture is of Glastonbury Tor, Andrew's favourite peaceful place where I scattered his ashes.
