The Harcamlow Way · 26 June 2021

Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

This is close to my heart! My father (pictured above), who inspired and it has to be said pushed me to be a runner, by laying down the challenge to beat his marathon time of 3hrs 55mins - set in London 1985. People didn't really run in those days and he was considered crazy for doing so. Sadly he was no longer with us to see me first equal his time to the minute in 2004 and then subsequently beat it.

He suffered a heart attack and died whilst running 23 yrs ago. Brother Carl and I are fortunate to be closely monitored by the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for possible inherited cardiac issues. I'm therefore hoping to get around this little loop in aid of The British Heart Foundation who thanks to their pioneering research, at least 7 out of 10 people now survive heart attacks.

So, an attempt to run the Harcamlow Way - a 138 mile/223km figure of 8 loop starting and finishing at St Mary's church in Manuden. I'm hoping to raise equal amounts of money for both the church and the British Heart Foundation by completing the route and would be grateful of your support.

The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
