On 22nd April, I'm abseiling down Belfast City Hospital in aid of Friends of the Cancer Centre and I would love your support.

 In May 2015, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. It's a form of blood cancer which required 6 months of chemotherapy to treat. The diagnosis was a huge shock to myself and my family and friends. I'd never been seriously ill before, nor had I known anyone to be personally impacted by cancer. The treatment process was extremely difficult, and the hardest parts were missing some of my A-Level exams and losing my hair. Throughout all stages of my illness, the Friends of the Cancer Centre offered help and support to me and my family when we didn't know what else to do. A teenage nurse specialist named Renee Reid and a lymphoma specialist named Laura Crone were assigned to our family, both of whom were infinitely helpful. They were great - they made sure I had everything I needed while I was confined to the ward with pneumonia, including wifi and a TV. The Friends of the Cancer Centre fund the Bridgewater Suite in Belfast City Hospital - the ward that deals with all the cancer patients. The organisation also ran loads of events for other young people like me, putting us in touch with each other and providing a fun, social and safe space to come to terms with what was happening to us. 

I've decided to do this abseil because I feel this organisation contributed to my recovery immeasurably. I want to give something back, and raise money so that they can keep helping people in the same position in the future. It's such a worthwhile cause and I would encourage everyone to sponsor me so that the Friends of the Cancer Centre can continue their valuable work.
