Story
I'm taking part in the #Big60Challenge for Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK) because for more than 60 years, MDUK have been funding world-class research into potential treatments and have been there to provide vital support for families living with over 60 rare muscle-wasting conditions. Unfortunately, like many charities, the COVID-19 pandemic is having a big impact on MDUK's fundraising events and MDUK estimates a loss of £2.8m of income this year. It's so important that they're here to continue their work for the years to come and I hope to help by taking on my #Big60Challenge.
For our Big 60 challenge we decided to climb Mount Everest from home in 60 days, which works out to be a total of 980 steps up and down every day! We started our ascent up MOUNT EVEREST from base camp (David’s living room haha) on the 13th of July so have already climbed 21,156 stairs - so we are a third of the way through the challenge!! I think it’s fair to say our glutes and calves are already POPPING! We chose to take part in this climb as we find the consistency of this challenge; committing to nearly a thousand steps every day to be tough yet rewarding both physically and mentally!
MDUK is a charity very close to our hearts. Over the past few years we have both helped to raise funds for the charity from volunteering to running half marathons (the latter only applying to Georgia!). What is so special about this charity to us is how MDUK creates a positive community where many families can come together and share their experiences of coping with the condition. As many of you will be aware, Georgia’s sister, Kiera, suffers from a variation of muscular dystrophy which caused her muscles to start to waste when she was only 9 years old. Her condition affects primarily her arms, back and legs - meaning she requires a scooter to help her get around. Both of us have been witness to the help offered to her by MDUK, they have helped her grow confident with her condition and blossom into the strong independent woman that she is today.
All donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
