Here’s my story

I’m doing the colour rush obstacle race on Father’s Day 16 June. I’m raising money for MAIN a charity based in Middlesbrough that has an inclusive approach to Autism.

Our son Luke has Autism. He’s unique and special but it’s complicated. He is really funny and has the ability to come out with quick wit that catches us off guard sometimes. The other day I described something as being big and he came out with , ‘ yeah that’s what she said’  😳

He remembers the names of contestants from game shows years ago and he can recite films word for word and often shares and corrects your quote!

Think you’re good at video games? Luke will give you a run for your money talk (well shout) you through how he’s beating you and how rubbish you are....and he’ll enjoy it! 

He’s often misunderstood or he doesn’t understand why he has to have such a rigid approach to life. You may remember I battled hard to get him into mainstream school. He’d rather not go now though and is anxious a lot. We’ve had a tough few months and recently we’ve had to cut him down to half days to help him cope as he navigates the pressure of doing GCSE’s and all the rules and inflexibility that brings. 

I’m seeking the advice of this charity on how else we can support him to live his best life.
