We work with local people to build a better future for gorillas

Story

I will be running the London Marathon 2011 for the Gorilla Organization www.gorillas.org (If you saw the film 'Gorillas in the Mist' - this the current name of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund Europe).

I plan to run in my gorilla suit to show my support for the charity and the work that they do for both the gorillas and the impoverished communities that share their forests.

The Gorilla Organization works internationally to save the world's last remaining gorillas in the wild, by funding small grass-roots projects, run by local African partners, that tackle the real threats to the gorillas' long term survival.

There are only about 700 Mountain Gorillas left in the world - the International Union for Conservation of Nature refers to this as 'Critically Endangered' - the next step for the species 'Extinct in the wild'.

However, Cross River gorillas are down to 300 - thats about the number of players in the Premier League.

With just over 1000 mountain gorillas left in the world and 3 subspecies now critically endangered it is vital we do everything we can to save gorillas from extinction. We protect them from poachers, safeguard their forest home and improve livelihoods in local communities. Will you join us?
