August 13th 2018 was like any normal day in the Halleron house, we were planning a few days away at my parents, then a couple of days at a hotel, but on that morning I couldn’t see anything at all out of my right eye, in honesty we thought I must have an infection. We went to our local A&E in Chelmsford, who referred us to the eye clinic and in turn to Moorfields, I had in fact suffered a detached retina. I felt shock and worried, would I get my sight back, how had it happened, I hadn’t had an accident or hit my head, it was just bad luck. The good luck was being referred to Moorfields who have been amazing and we as a family can’t thank them enough for their wonderful professional and caring service.
This is our way of saying thank you, so that they can continue to be at the forefront of all the pioneering work that is done to give everyone the opportunity to see.
Eye to Eye raises funds for pioneering research into eye disorders. Moorfields aim to raise over £150,000 towards areas of eye research such as glaucoma, the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, and age-related macular degeneration, the main cause of blindness in adults aged over 60 in the western world. In the five years since Eye to Eye began, donations raised have helped support vital research projects including studies exploring the genetics of keratoconus and the impact of diabetic retinopathy on the structure and function of the eye.
