Story
I am running the 2026 Edinburgh Marathon the weekend after I turn 50.
I started my running journey in 2019 with a failed Couch to 5K.
Undaunted, and after recovering from major surgery, I returned to Glasgow Frontrunners - an award-winning, inclusive, community based LGBTQIA+ running club - and completed my C25K... just in time for the COVID lockdowns to start.
Despite everything, I kept running on my own and, once we were able, with others from the club. I became a qualified Jog Leader and served on the club committee. I worked my way up from 5K, to 10K and, in 2023, completed the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon. And I have over 50 parkruns under my belt.
However, for several years now, I have said that I would run a marathon for my 50th birthday. And this is the year!
I am also supporting a charity that as an elder queer who grew up in the dark times of the AIDS crisis and under Section 28, I find close to my heart.
LGBT Youth Scotland's is Scotland’s national charity for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) young people. For more than 20 years they have been creating safe spaces where LGBTI young people aged 13-25 can flourish; reaching their full potential as they live, love and learn in life, work and education.
Young people are the future of Scotland (and the world), but we know that LGBTI young people face unique and additional barriers to realising their full potential.
I would be so grateful if you could take the time to sponsor me to help the cause and also to motivate me in my training!
