Story
Earlier this year, our Holiday Extras colleague Howard and his wife Katie received the news that their 12 year old daughter had been diagnosed with a brain tumour, every parent’s worst nightmare. Since then Evie has undergone surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and now begins a long journey of immunotherapy, facing every step with incredible bravery and resilience.
We would love to give something back to King's College Hospital who looked after them so well in the early days, so we are taking the opportunity to do our bit to support them with their mission.
To kick us off Simon did a relay swim in a team of three (no wetsuit permitted!) from Jersey to France, swimming 16.5 miles across the Ocean, and Matt did his first long distance triathlon, also known as an “iron man” in total 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of cycling, 26 miles of running. In total we raised just over £19.5k, and have now set ourselves the ambitious target of raising £100k for King's College Hospital. We realise this will take time, and the involvement of a number of other people, but we genuinely believe we can get there if we keep chipping away.
The next mission is the Great Hospital Hike from King's College Hospital to Princess Royal University Hospital in Bromley, a 17 mile walk which a group of Holiday Extras colleagues will be undertaking, the aim being to get us over the £20k mark and beyond.
A big thank you to everyone that is getting involved whether you are walking or donating, you are all playing your part, and every single £ really does mean so much to all of us.
