Great North Run 2023 · 10 September 2023 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thank you so much for taking time to click let alone donate.

I choose a relevant charity to run for each year that truly means something for me at that moment in time

Barry my second dad has advanced Alzheimer’s  He is 91 and the most wonderful gentleman who is lovingly doted and cared for by his beautiful bride Pauline

They’ve been together (inseparable) since they were teenagers and are about to celebrate 75 years of marriage.

I’ve observed and felt the pain that the family has endured so far and wanted to contribute in my own way to support not only those with Alzheimer’s but also the families who are affected

It’s alarming what happens as we observe the changes, the care needed and how tough it is for Pauline and my hubby Dunc  I know Helena who lives in the states feels it too

Your donation will be gratefully received and I’ll throw in a marathon (York marathon in October) to make it worth it!

Definition below 💛

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease that usually starts slowly and progressively worsens.[2] It is the cause of 60–70% of cases of dementia.[2][11] The most common early symptom is difficulty in remembering recent events.[1] As the disease advances, symptoms can include problems with language, disorientation (including easily getting lost), mood swings, loss of motivation, self-neglect, and behavioral issues.[2] As a person's condition declines, they often withdraw from family and society.[12]

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
