Story
Into 2013 we go, You may remember in 2012 I completed numerous challenges to raise money for my daughter Molly.
Molly has a condition called Rett Syndrome. This syndrome is horrendous as over the last 14 years it has robbed Molly of her speech, the ability to walk unaided, the ability to feed herself. Molly has regressed she used to be able to do all these things until she was three. Since then her development has started going backwards.
She is also now is on medication to prevent epilepsy, brought on by this condition. Her spine is starting to curve where she cannot walk unaided, she also has breathing difficulties. These symptoms are "normal" for a girl suffering from Rett
Now here is the science bit, Rett Syndrome has been reversed in the lab on mice suffering from Rett and the same symptoms Molly has!
Over the last few years Rett Syndrome Research Trust UK a relatively new charity (June 2010) has been at the forefront in funding for clinical studies to begin in girls like Molly to reverse the syndrome and cure her and many other children some young some older, but still someones child.
We need to continue with the incredible progress brought on last year, which has made massive inroads in driving the reversal and cure from mice to Molly.
I am walking with a dedicated group of friends, supporters and other family members in the Rett community 60km across the South Downs. I expect it will take around 15-18 hours to complete this. It will be painful, but not as painful as what Molly goes through every day, which should and could be prevented.
Thank you, please help a dad cure his daughter x
