Story

Hey👋

Thanks so much for visiting our fundraising page. I really appreciate your time and hopefully after hearing my story you will donate to support me and my mates running our first ever marathon. I’ll definitely need all the help I can get ! My two good friends Jack and Damo are kindly running the marathon with me to offer support on the day but more importantly to help raise as much funds as possible for Alzheimer’s research.

I’m running it in memory of my Nana who sadly passed away while living with dementia. She was an absolute inspiration to me growing up, and always so supportive to all of us grandchildren. She was a kind and strong independent woman living on her own while always being so welcoming to everyone who paid her a visit. My fondest memories are of when she would collect me from school and we would have dinner together before she dropped me back down to training or study. It was our special time together and I cherish those memories.

Unfortunately she developed dementia and deteriorated quickly and it absolutely broke my family’s hearts. I’ll never forget the Christmas when I walked into the kitchen and it took her some time to recognise who I was. She then needed constant care and it took a hard toll on my family. With nearly a million people living with dementia across the UK and Ireland, this kind of situation for families is much too common.

While I was on the show Love Island my Nana passed away and I’ll forever regret not being able to see her in her last few days. I’m running the London Marathon and raising funds for Alzheimer’s Research because I feel like I owe my Nana something and I also don’t want other families to hurt the way we did. All money raised will be funding the EDoN project which looks at the early detection of Neurodegenerative diseases and is the largest initiative in the world that will collect, share and analyse clinical and digital health data to detect disease such as Alzheimer's earlier and more accurately.

This Marathon is going to be one of the most difficult challenges I’ve faced but I’m ready to do it for my Nana and for the future of Alzheimer’s research. Please donate anything you can to help myself, Jack & Damo get over that finish line !

Thank you,

Greg !
