My three year old son Douglas, was diagnosed with childhood cancer in October 2016. Douglas endured over a year of intensive treatment and spent an all too brief time in remission but, despite the very best efforts of the excellent NHS teams at Addenbrook's Hospital in Cambridge and at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, he relapsed and sadly died at home in our arms in February 2018.

Whilst as a family (Jane, Clara and I) we continue to be heart-broken we want to do something for one of the many charities that supported us during the worst of times.

CLIC Sargent were there for us from day one, when we were introduced to Amanda, one of their specialist nurses who coordinated all of Douglas’ treatment, liaising with the consultants, GPs and community teams who were all involved in his care. She visited Douglas at home shortly before he died and had a lovely time playing with him. One of our last memories is of Douglas laughing as he dropped coins into Amanda’s tea.

CLIC Sargent also fund social workers like Rachel, who helped us with all the admin and form filling that comes with having a sick child. She also put us in contact with other charities who could help us and was always there for a chat when we were stuck in hospital.

I wanted to do something tough, not just for Douglas but also to help with my own well being (physical and mental) which has taken a beating over the past few years. For those that know me, I'm a 50 + year big guy who definitely needs to lose some weight.

I've been fortunate enough to have secured a place running for 
CLIC Sargent in the 2019 London Marathon. The training is going well and the weight is slowly coming off but If you could donate anything to this great charity I would be extremely great full.
