Hello, my name is Hannah and I am 49 years old.

I was diagnosed with Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) about ten years ago and the PBC foundation charity has provided excellent support to me and all its members to raise awareness of this auto immune disease which affects the liver. 

It is possible to lead a normal life despite the challenges that this disease can throw at us, and I hope that by competing in this competition I can inspire other people with this condition to be more active and reach their potential. 

There is no cure for PBC but it can be managed with the right support. PBC affects nine women to every one man and when I was diagnosed with it, I had never heard of it before.  Some of the symptoms of Pbc are bone and joint aches, itching, pain around liver area and fatigue. The immune system mistakenly attacks the bile ducts of the liver and this can lead to liver failure for some people and the need for transplant. 

With the support of Buckley Gymnastics Club,  I will be competing in the Adult British Gymnastics Championships on 28th August, you are never too old to wear a leotard! It would be fantastic to raise money for this wonderful charity so I’m going for gold and hope that you will support me! 

If this inspires just one person with this disease to believe that they can overcome Pbc and live a normal and active life that would be amazing 🤩 and if a few more people get the support they need to manage it then even better!
