Story
I am taking part in the midnight memory walk in memory of my brother David a very brave boy.
On 14th September 2006, after just three days of sickness and headaches, my previously fit and healthy 10 year old brother, was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour.Despite intensive chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a seven and a half hour operation; on 28th December 2007 we were given the devastating news that David was losing his batlle with cancer and was terminally ill.
Bristol Children's hospital suggested we visit Charlton Farm children's hospice in Wraxall (near Bristol).Having got to know the staff at the children's hospital very well, we reluctantly visited Charlton Farm. Within minutes of arriving we were made to feel at home. Both David and myself were bowled over with the beautiful setting and facilities, especially Sky Sports, the teenage room and jacuzzi! More important than the building and facilities, was the care and kindness of the staff, not just for David but for our whole family.
Though we only had one respite visit, many children and their families are supported for years.David told everybody that Charlton Farm was like a five star hotel! We thought it was better, there are the comforts of a hotel, with a homely atmosphere and people who really care for and support the whole family through their darkest hours.
David's second planned visit began on 29th February 2008 during this visit he deteriorated quickly and passed away peacefully on 7th March 2008, knowing Jesus as his friend and Saviour. The staff at Charlton Farm were an amazing support to our family. We continue to benefit from the support and care offered by the staff at Charlton Farm Children's hospice as do many other families.
Thankyou for supporting this charity which is so close to my heart.
Love, Hannah x
