We provide expert care and support to young people with cancer

Story

My name is Hannah Lyson, I’m 19 years old from North-West, England and I’ve been diagnosed with Bowel Cancer that has then spread to the Liver. I have been diagnosed with the standard Bowel Cancer that 95% of adults over 60 are diagnosed with. This has spread to my Liver leaving me with a tumour in my bowel (Removed 27th May) and four tumours in my Liver. I have already undergone keyhole surgery when I had my stoma created to remove the tumour in my bowel and am due to undergo Chemo to hopefully shrink the tumours in my Liver enough to also operate and remove the tumours there also. This Cancer is EXTREMELY uncommon in my age group. In fact, it’s uncommon in anyone under 45 therefore being 19 getting this diagnosis was lucky as no one was looking for this.

I am trying to raise awareness that people my age can get this form of Cancer despite doctors not thinking and very rarely testing people my age who have the symptoms, it’s often misdiagnosed as an Irritable Bowel Disorder (IBD). I’ve read and heard about many young people who have found out they have Bowel Cancer but often too late because for a long time before they’ve been told it’s nothing to be worried about. My aim is to raise awareness in the form of writing a blog which documents my treatment and my Cancer progress as well as including some posts about my stoma which I was also given because of the Cancer. I hopefully will help people learn something new and give young people who are going through a similar situation some comfort that they are not alone.

I’ve set up this JustGiving page to show how much has been raised from selling my wristbands. DO NOT DONATE HERE TO PURCHASE A WRISTBAND, PLEASE FOLLOW THE LINKS ON MY BLOG AND FACEBOOK PAGE. If you donate on this page, it is your own contribution and will not receive a wristband in return as JustGiving is not a site for selling. Feel free to leave your own contribution if you wish, but as I've said, I am more than happy for people to just simply share my blog (aworthwhileadventure.wordpress.com) to help me raise awareness on bowel cancer in young people and share my story for other people who may be in my situation.
